Big Data Lacks Vision

It’s awfully presumptive of Dataists to say humans would prefer a robot to the same democracy that gave them the robot. The Marvel character Ultron once observed that humans always create things that supplant them: “Men of peace create engines of war and people create children” (Avengers: Age of Ultron). He then turned around and created an android that supplanted him. I’m not convinced that robots are too smart for their own good; they don’t have Vision. They “do not move, beyond what is given, to untrodden paths” (Han 2022). (AJ-11) [90]

  1. That’s a promising, keep-worth point about untrodden paths for the reason that 1) it resonates with our earlier readings about hodology, or pathing (whether about disciplinary paths or about hypertext, forking paths), and 2) that it is, for Han, akin to thinking. One who thinks is capable of choosing among paths, going off path, and even creating new paths for others to trod.
